Miscellaneous

I would like to thank my media studies teacher Ms: Shelton for giving me this opportunity to create a blog. By me creating this blog I leant a lot about how the media can manipulate us in the smallest way. Now when I look at an advertisement I think critical about it and try to find the true meaning not just the overall picture. I hope I get a great mark for this because I pulled an overnighter I broke sweat and I was tired.
I hope this blog ‘changed your perception’ about the world you live in.

Product Placement in the media

Artists should be paid for advertising a particular product in a video because they are influencing a vast amount of people and since a large amount of people idolizes them, they would want to buy what they advertise. The multi-billion dollar industries such as Nike, Sony or any other company should paid the artistes since the artists influence a vast amount of people. Once a product is advertised in a video; research has proven that, that particular product would be a ‘must have’. Even though we are being constantly bombarded with advertisement throughout the world and I don’t like that fact that most music videos are paid commercials. But give credit with credit is needed, if you can kill two birds with one stone meaning; make money off a music video while making money for product placement, why not do it?

Btw, Audi was the main vehicle in transporter, transformers iron man 1 and 2, i robot and more. This is an example of product placement. [AUDI]

The impact that the media has on the youth

To most of us that contains a TV the media is another form of being a teacher. Knowing that mostly everything on TV is scripted teens would disregard their own morals so that hey to can live the life that they see on TV. Everything on TV is fictional but to the younger and naive minds they believe that what they observe on TV is how everyone should live. The media has the power to shape and form our lives especially the younger generation and a lot of the character traits that most teens have now-a-days are formed by the media. The youth of the new generation doesn’t value education, nor do they value good morals. They rather value the latest gear, clothing, sexual activates and technology. This behaviour of most adolescents was vastly impacted from the media. This notion that the media created only helps the business and the people who runs them not you.

My advice to the youth is don’t let the media shape your life. Be in tune with your ethic’s and good judgments because you are the future. The people who you idolized has no clue that you exist so don’t set them as your priority while leaving everything thing else as opinions.

Analyzing A Movie - The Blind Side

The movie that I decide to review is called ‘the blind side’ it’s a very inspirational and enticing movie. It’s about a boy who never had a real family and his name is Michael Oher (Quinton Aaron). He gets enrolled into a high-class Christian school, which is mostly dominated by Caucasians. But he didn’t get enrolled for the sake of an education; he got enrolled so that he can be a part of the football team. He was an outcast that later turned into the most loved person/player amount others. But none of this could happen if Leigh Anne Tuohy (Sandra Bullock) didn’t support Michael when he was at his worst. She nurtured him, took him in as her son and protect him. Product placement: In this movie it looks like Bmw got sponsored, because if you look at the main vehicles throughout the movie they are all Bmw’s. If you look at gender representation I guess the director used stereotypes based on the background of a culture to form the characters in this movie. Michael, who is a black male, was passed on from family to family due to the fact that his mother and father were irresponsible. At a young age he lived in a poor and ghetto community with only the bare necessities of life. On top of that his education levels where low, he never got the proper education at a young at. His mother said something to Leigh Anne Tuohy indicating that having a foster child is an easy way for money. Leigh Anne Tuohy, A white female who lives in the suburbs, drives expensive cars, and raises her kid in an orderly manner. To her having a foster child is not about the money that comes with the child; to her it’s about giving the foster kid a bright and promising future. Michael went from being a young male who lived in the projects to the all so famous football player with a decent education.

Analyzing A Music Video (Ciara - I can't leave em alone)

In Ciara’s “I can’t leave em alone” is a pop song about love. But this video promotes nudity, product placement and self-objectification. In the opening scene Curtis Jackson spits a little rap while advertising his vitamin water and his clothing brand ‘G-Unit’. In the back background there is a Pontiac G6, which is totally unnecessary. But not only that the camera focuses on the logo of the car, which is an example of product placement. Also Sony plays a role in product placement as well. They have two products being advertised in this video which are: a camera, and a Sony ericson cell phone. It’s just shows you that most music videos are paid commercials. Not let’s talk about the self-objectification. Ciara is walking down the street with as much skin showing as possible. She is the only female who is showing cleavage and the only female who is wearing provocative clothing. This character trait later results in her being nude. There is a scene where 50 cent and Ciara are holding each other in a hugging position while being nude. The camera starts to focus on particular body parts like: 50 cents abs, and as the camera rotates it show’s Ciara’s upper body emphasizing her chest. The video is 4:10 long and the nude scenes starts at 1:49. So the first part of the video is about product placement while the last part of the video is about sex. So, the message that they are sending to the attendance is that sex is a vital part of being in a relationship.

Analyzing Advertisements [x4]

In this ad it shows a male sitting on a chair while a female is on top of the computer acting promiscuous. But that’s not the ironic part; draw your eyes to the center of the picture. What is that you see on the computer screen? It’s a rocket, if you look at the general picture the rocket ship is blasting off and is in-between the legs of the female. Could that be a symbolic image that represents a penis entering her? (You tell me). The female is dressed in a very erotic way with a lot of skin showing, a little bit of cleavage, and high heel shoes. In today’s society the woman in this picture has the same character traits as a common stripper. I’m not calling her a stripper but “sex sells”. Another thing is that it looks like the male in this picture has total power since he is the one controlling the computer.

It’s him again, Mr: Macho man. In both pictures he has that smirk on his face indicating his dominance on woman. This ad was made by Candies, Fragrances for Men and Women. But I think they are trying to sell sex not fragrances because the perfume or the cologne is hardly noticeable but the sex is. Look around what so you see? I see condoms, (which the index finger on the male is pointing at), I see a butt crack, and legs spread open which is around the hips of the male and more. It’s incongruous how the setting of this scene is located in the bathroom. A place that seen us all naked.

Dismemberment of a female’s body and male dominance over woman is shown once again. This ad is from the all so famous, Tom Ford. Just like the other two ads from Candies it is very offensive to all women. It’s just ludicrous how companies would portray a woman just to sell merchandise, In this case fragrance. On the ad it says “TOM FORD – Beauty eye wear men’s wear about where to buy”. It’s an ad that is targeted at men. So let me ask why is there a picture of a naked female body? Why is the cologne covering her crotch? This ad is vulgar and disrespectful to women. Just like I said in the first ad I guess sex sells.

In this ad Gucci uses a female to promote their brand. In the scene there is a man and a woman, it seem like they are in a room of some sort. As you can see the man is kneeing while the female stands. He is holding on both of her legs while some parts of her cleavage are showing not only that, she’s pulling down her shorts in a flirtatious way. Her hair down there* has the letter ‘G’. Gucci is objectively using a woman’s body to promote its brand. It just shows how much power these companies have over females, because the female in this picture allowed Gucci to produce this coarse and degrading picture. It gives us the message that you can buy out a woman and they would pretty much do anything for money.
- A little bit of money can go along way.
